It's all coming together at our San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua resort. Our new hotel chef, Geronimo Athuel Amaral, arrived today. Although he was born in Brazil, Amaral is familiar with cuisines from around the globe and is especially experienced with Italian, Oriental and Brazilian cuisines.

Educated at Senac, a world-renowned culinary school, Amaral developed a keen understanding of menu development, kitchen management and plate aesthetics. His food is absolutely amazing. Formerly the chef at Miramar Surf Camp, the demands of a Nicaragua hotel venue are nothing new to Chef Amaral.

Geronimo has been developing his craft for seven years. He is sure to be an excellent addition to our Nicaragua resort.

Surf in Nicaragua: Beaches in Nicaragua to SUP

Anyone planning a vacation to surf in Nicaragua should keep in mind that Nicaragua beaches offer some of the best stand up paddle boarding around. Yesterday, we went on on a one hour trek to experience stand up paddle boarding in Playa Marsella. Most of us had never tried the sport before and had a blast learning something new, fun and active. Needless to say, this won't be the last time we stand up paddle board at the Marsella Hotel.

If you've read our other posts, you know that Playa Marsella is a secluded beach, enclosed by two towering cliffs. This is the perfect scenery for an SUP session. We paddled within a few feet of hollow caves, carved deep into the sides of the bordering headlands. Playa Maderas is only a 15 minute paddle away, and when you journey around the cliff separating the two beaches, it's a whole new perspective of the ocean.

On the other side of Marsella, we paddled South, around the other headland and to an uninhabited beach. The journey tool about 20 minutes, and the sight of waves pounding on high cliffs, producing incredible rock textures that only nature could create, made the experience both humbling and liberating.

Although, at the moment, there's not much demand for stand up paddle boarding in Nicaragua, this trending sport is sure to reach the tropical region of San Juan del Sur. The aesthetic allure of the land and sea, and the forgiving nature of the clean waves, makes San Juan del Sur the perfect destination for paddle boarders. At Playa Marsella Beach Front, we will have a selection of carefully chosen SUP designs that will interest beginners and even the most advanced paddle boarders.

The last week has been a big one for our Nicaragua beach resort. We welcomed three more guests to surf the best beaches in San Juan del Sur, we completed construction on the pool-side suites and we are making incredible progress with the Marsella Beach Front Resort kitchen.

The swell filled in and every beach is lighting up! Even Marsella is seeing some overhead sets. Most Central American spots on the Pacific Coast are too big to work, but Marsella is holding strong with some 6-8 foot faces. With waves like this is our backyard and Playa Maderas less than one mile away, the Playa Marsella Beach Front Hotel is the best surf hotel Nicaragua.

Yesterday was a little rough with light offshore winds, but today, some beaches are seeing 12-foot sets and the offshore wind makes the waves manageable. On days like this, Playa Maznanillo is the place to go, and because the beach is only accessible by boat, you and your friends will enjoy a crowd-free, barreling point-break. At the Marsella Beach Front Hotel, we can have a boat chartered to access Manzanillo in no time.

The next two days should see solid surf for all of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Waves should stay over six foot until Sunday with a period of no less than 15 seconds at our surf hotel in Nicaragua. Even when this swell is gone, Maderas holds incredible surf almost every day of the week with offshore winds 300 days of the year.

We welcomed our second group of guests at the Marsella Beach Front Hotel last night. The four travelers were greeted by incredible weather and a forecast of solid, overhead surf. We were all excited to be in the perfect location for the upcoming swell, a hotel near Playa Remanso.

After a night of swimming in the infinity-edge pool and drinking Toñas, we woke up at first light and headed to Remanso. The swell had not filled in, but there were still some clean, chest-high sets. Remanso offers both rights and lefts and in bigger waves, there´s a point-break on both sides of the beach.

On the shore is one of San Juan del Sur´s best taco restaurants. On top of authentic Nicaraguan food, the restaurant serves smoothies, beer and frozen drinks.

The surf forecast is getting better by the day, and for tomorrow, it reads 2.2-3.4 meter waves and a period of 20 seconds! We´ll have some photos posted.

Over the last few days, we´ve been meeting with the owners of the most popular tourist attractions in San Juan del Sur. Besides these new attractions, San Juan del Sur is only 10 minutes away and the surf at Playa Maderas is less than one mile from the resort. We also have a slack line, beach volleyball, hiking trails, kayaking, snorkeling, surfing, yoga and an infinity-edge, waterfall pool.

Nightlife San Juan del Sur

Saturday night was a blast for our guests at the Playa Marsella Beach Front Hotel. We shuttled our visitors into town to experience the incredible nightlife in San Juan del Sur.

The town that seems asleep on rainy weeknights came alive with crowds of people filling the streets. Streetvendors offered delicious Nicaraguan cuisine at low prices and the bars were packed with locals and tourists.

The first stop was Iguana´s, a two-story pub that offers delicious food, cocktails and an upstairs dance club. The place was an absolute party and featured an incredible view from the second-story balcony.

Next stop was the Black Whale. Live music filled the air with the best rock songs of the past and present. A talented band played everything from Johnny Cash to Neil Young. We weren´t just greeted with a friendly hello, but a shot at the door. With reasonably priced drinks and friendly locals, the Black Whale was one of the most enjoyable bars we visited.

The Playa Marsella Beach Front Hotel has the whole package. For families, we offer a range of events like horseback riding, kayaking, repelling, beach volleyball and surfing. Our social area is relaxing, not rambunctious. And for the younger crowd, Playa Maderas is less than one mile away, and the nightlife of San Juan del Sur is a quick, 10-minute shuttle from the hotel. With a great combination of family-friendly activities and nightlife San Juan del Sur, the Playa Marsella Beach Front Hotel is the best location for anyone who seeks a relaxing, adventurous vacation in Nicaragua.

Hotel Near Manzanillo: Marsella Beach Front

Today we took our new friends to Playa Manzanillo, one of the best point-breaks in Nicaragua. The surf forecast wasn't fantastic--onshore winds and waves of approximately three feet, but sure enough, Manzanillo delivered.

The 30-minute boat ride showcased the natural beauty of the Central American coastline, which was peppered with jagged cliffs, caves and unique plantlife. We didn't see much surf on the way to the break, so we were a little skeptical. But when we reached our destination, we could tell why the place earned such a fantastic reputation.

The spot is a left-hand break with a takeoff zone next to some cliffs. The reef is perfectly shaped to offer long, barreling lines. Today, the barrels weren't pumping, although a few of us made it out of some pinched tubes. But with the shape of the coast, this place is sure to offer some incredible rides in the right swell.

Manzanillo is officially added to the Marsella Beach Front surf tour, which already features Playa Maderas, Playa Yankee and Playa Remanso. There's no other hotel near Manzanillo that offers such an incredible selection of activities and is located only 10 minutes from San Juan del Sur.

Playa Maderas Backpack Destination: Incredible Surf, Great Food, Friendly People

Yesterday, we welcomed a group of travelers from Brazil hoping to score some great waves and relax at the Marsella Beach Front Hotel. I was a little skeptical about the swell; after one week of solid surf, the forecast was only reading 2-3 feet. Fortunately, Playa Maderas can take 2-3 foot surf and produce clean head-high sets. With offshore winds and minimal crowd, we surfed for four hours until sunset. The Marsella Beach Front Hotel is the perfect location if you want to backpack in Playa Maderas.

After a night of fun in San Juan del Sur, we took our guests on a morning surf at Playa Yankee. Although the tide wasn't quite right, we scored some decent sets. Afterwards, we ate a free breakfast by the pool and wend 4-wheeling.

The surf's looking solid for the rest of the week and we look forward to introducing our new friends to Playa Remanso, one of the best breaks in Nicaragua. It's an incredibly easy wave to surf, and even when it's head-high beginners and longboarders have no trouble.

Construction continues on the restaurant and the pool-side suites. This place is going to be an incredible place for backpackers in Playa Maderas. Stay tuned for more updates!

After months of work and planning, it's time to welcome our first reservation. Starting tomorrow, we will be guiding our first group of vacationers on a surf tour to the best spots in San Juan del Sur. The list includes Playa Maderas, Yankee, Remanso and more. For those of you who have been following the progress, we're about to pass a major milestone by publishing the Playa Marsella Beach Front website. We've got the best designers in the business working hard to create a webpage that showcases the natural beauty of the beach and surroundings at this affordable hotel in San Juan del Sur.

Today's mission--explore the surrounding caves and develop a photogenic tour for tourists. We climbed up the south headland and through an unbeaten trail. As we reached the top of the cliff, pounding waves were breaking on the rock reef below. It would have been decent surf, except for the razor-sharp rocks that line the cliffside.

Down the steep, rock wall and a short walk along an eroded flatbed brought us to a massive opening in the cliff. Approximately 30 feet (9.1 meters) deep, the cave is roomy enough to walk through comfortably at low tides. At higher tides, and when the waves are big, a blowhole shoots water out the side of the cliff and produces a resounding "whoosh" that can be heard from the hotel. It's truly a sight to see when you're riding the surf at the Marsella Beach Front.

And today, there's definitely some surf. Consistent chest-to-head high beach-break is coming in at an A-frame. The left point-break is also working today. It's incredible to see these waves, untapped, in our back yard. It's like the hotel has it's own wave pool. It's playful surf that can produce makeable barrels.

Of course, Playa Maderas is just a short distance away (less than 1K). Ask around and you'll hear the same--it's the best surf in San Juan del Sur. With the natural beauty of the place, incredible hotel attractions, great surf and comfortable living spaces, there's no way you'll find a better, more affordable travel destination.

How do you construct a hotel that satisfies every guest no matter who they are, what they like and what they expect? Easy! Give every guest...everything! With a perfect location, a comfortable living space and all the attractions one would expect in Central America, no one would guess this is a cheap Playa Maderas hotel with rooms starting at $17!

Today's mission--explore the headland on the south side of Marsella. With the help of a local guide, we were introduced to the natural beauty of the cliff-side that encompasses the Playa Marsella Beach Front, and it was an incredible experience!

Tropical plants provided shade as we walked through the paths that weaved up, down and around the mountainside. On the other end of the headland is El Toro, an undeveloped bay with an incredible rockface pounded by Pacific Ocean surf. In the distance, you could see treetops shaking as monkeys foraged for food.

As we walked down a path that was spotted with iguanas, cactus and other natural life, we approached a wall about 3 meters high and 15 meters long, peppered with holes in which thousands of crabs make their nests.

On the Marsella side of the cliff are two deep caves that can be explored at low tides. This is the star attraction as breaking waves have made natural patterns, textures and colors in the walls of the cave.

And who said there was no surf in Marsella? We paddled out today in solid chest-high waves coming in point-break style. The beach-break was pumping lefts and rights. No closeouts and a few barrels to be had. Forget Maderas, this is our backyard wave pool.

Between these natural wonders and the on-site attractions, including kayaking, snorkeling, beach volleyball, an infinity-edge pool and more, this is by far the most incredible cheap hotel near Playa Maderas.

Hostel Near Playa Maderas: The ULTIMATE Surf Destination

Running a business ain't easy. No matter what your industry, there's always someone willing to work hard to provide a better service or offer a lower price. But at the Marsella Beach Front Hotel, everything is coming together. Our team is driven, intelligent, experienced and we genuinely love what we do. With our location, there's no doubt that we are offer the most complete, entertaining hostel Playa Maderas, and at $17 for a dorm room, it is the ULTIMATE surf desitination.

Today's task--develop a guided surf tour that introduces guests to the best waves in San Juan del Sur. With a solid 4-7 foot swell (1.2-2.1 meters), today was the perfect day to visit the best point- and beach-breaks and create a surfing experience unlike any other.

Although our location makes us a prime travel destination, we are within a half hour's drive to some of the best breaks in Central America, including Playa Remanso and Playa Yankee (which were gnarly today). And for those who want the full-on, off the beaten trail experience, we visited Playa el Coco and Ostional. After careful research, talking with locals and catching some waves for ourselves, we know the best tides, wind, seasons and swell size to put together an exciting, memory-filled surf tour.

The idea of the week--our yoga classes will now take place on our floating platform. Say what? That's right; at sunset, we'll kayak out to our floating platform in our private bay and you can enjoy some relaxing, therapeutic yoga while standing on the waters of Playa Marsella. Get the word out cause this is gonna be one awesome hostel!

Hotel Near Playa Maderas is Making Progress!

We’re making more and more progress every day on our hotel near Playa Maderas. We just finished the flagstone floor for the two-story restaurant, which will not only be open to hotel guests, but also to visitors from San Juan del Sur!

Yesterday, we finalized the orders for many of our attractions. We will have four one-person kayaks, two tandem kayaks, a billiards table, foosball, beach volleyball and a slackline. Surf lessons will be offered and we’re working to design guided surf tours as well.

We’ve been here for a week and still no rain—just perfect weather and offshore winds. The nature is beautiful and includes exotic plants and wildlife, along with frequent sightings of the Nicaraguan national bird, the motmot. The Marsella Beach Front Hotel will offer an aesthetic allure unlike any other hotel near Playa Maderas.

We’re still scheduled to open in mid-July, but with the progress being made, it wouldn’t be surprising if we open our doors sooner. For some photos and more information, check us out on Facebook:

Tomorrow, we begin construction on our floating platform. Our hope is that in the near future, we will design a floating bar stationed in the middle of the bay! This travel destination will be truly unlike any other.

Hotel Surf Playa Maderas is Making FAST Progress!

It's only been a few days and this place is becoming an incredible hotel near Playa Maderas surfing. The location is incredible! Situated in a private bay and less than 1 mile from Playa Maderas, the hotel offers a secluded paradise that is close enough to world-class surf and the attractions of San Juan del Sur.

It's amazing to see the excitement on the faces of everyone working on this project. Today, we will start building a floating platform that will sit in the middle of the bay.
